I’m New
I'm New
You are warmly welcome to participate in the worship and work of the Anglican Parish of Taree.
There are two main churches in the Parish;
-
- St John the Divine, VictoriaStreet, Taree,
- Lady of Fatima Church, Hall Street, Old Bar. The Church at Old Bar is the property of the Roman Catholic Church, and it is used by both faith communities.
The first Anglican Service in Taree was conducted in 1845, and the first Church was constructed two years later. The foundation stone of the present Church of St John the Divine was laid in 1954, and the building is a landmark in the Manning Valley. There is a large illuminated blue cross on top of the tower, and the Church is often referred to as the ‘Blue Cross Church’. The Church stands on the north bank of the Manning River, and it is on the west side of the long bridge.
The people of the Anglican Parish of Taree seek to serve God in worship, teaching, pastoral care and mission. We welcome all people, and we seek to affirm Jesus’ teaching that he is amongst us as one who serves.
Welcome or Welcome Back
We understand that going to Church for the first time, or for the first time in a while, can be a bit daunting. You will want to be acknowledged, but maybe not over fussed about. We use Prayer Books so following the service is easy enough, if you would like a hand with this, ask someone near the door and they will find someone to do that for you. We sing hymns, and the numbers are normally displayed on the board, so that should be easy.
We will not be sticking a badge on you to say that you are new. We are simply glad that you choose to walk with us, some part of the way on the journey of life.
After most services there will be some community time, with a cup of tea of coffee, which provides an opportunity to get to know a few of the people, over time.
You are always welcome, and you may have come for a reason, you may come for a time, you may stay and grow and help us grow. We understand that the last thing you want to feel is pressured. You will always be welcome to walk at your own pace.
